RUNNING GEAR & ACCESSORIES FAQs

What running gear do I need for winter running in Canada?
Layering clothes is the key to comfortable winter running in the harsh Canadian conditions. Base layers are ideal for wearing next to the skin, as they wick away moisture and keep you warm. Add a T-shirt, shorts and a FORZA hoodie for insulation. A Windbreaker Jacket as the outer layer will help to block wind chill and light snow. A high percentage of heat is lost from the hands and face. Cover extremities with a FORZA Beanie Hat, Fleece Neck Warmer or Active Neck Gaiter. Add Winter Thermal Gloves with touch-screen fingertip panels so you can keep using your phone without removing them.
What's the difference between EAB, kinesiology and cohesive tape?
The three tape types do different jobs. EAB (Elastic Adhesive Bandage) is a stretchy, adhesive-backed tape used for ankle, wrist and thumb support where you need firm compression and restricted range of motion. It is the standard tape used by physios for joint protection. Kinesiology tape is thinner and more elastic. It is designed to lift the skin and support muscles without restricting movement. Kinesiology tape is commonly used for calf, hamstring, IT band and shoulder support. Cohesive bandages stick to themselves so they don't move or fall, but they don't stick to skin or hair. This means it wraps and secures without needing scissors to remove. Cohesive bandages are ideal for holding padding, ice packs or dressings in place.
Are FORZA base layers suitable for cold-weather running?
Yes. FORZA Base Layer Tops and Leggings use a moisture-wicking, close-fit fabric that draws sweat away from the skin and traps a thin layer of warm air against the body. These are the two properties that keep runners warm and dry in wet and cold conditions. As mentioned above, multiple layers are the most efficient way to keep warm, so consider adding your normal running gear and a lightweight jacket on top.
