What are the FORZA size 5 soccer balls made of?+
The FORZA size 5 range uses materials matched to the ball's purpose. The flagship Icon+ Match Ball features a 24-panel thermally bonded construction with a premium PU leather casing, a 1.2mm surface layer, a 3.5mm EVA foam lining and a natural latex adhesive. This is all built around a butyl bladder that provides maximum air retention. The Club ball uses a hybrid 6-panel construction with a high abrasion PU outer, 2200y butyl bladder and a 1.2mm 3D surface structure. The Academy ball uses a tear-resistant TPU outer layer, a 3.5mm EVA foam internal lining and a 2500y butyl bladder with polyester winding for shape retention across a full season. Real animal leather has been phased out of soccer ball manufacturing in the main, because it retains water. It also degrades quicker. PU leather is a synthetic material that is designed to be water resistant. It is a polyurethane coating applied over a woven fabric backing. This is the industry standard for balls used at the professional level. TPU is a tougher version of PU, and more resistant to scuffs and tears. It is slightly firmer and often used for training soccer balls thanks to its durability.
What is the difference between the FORZA Icon+, Club and Academy size 5 balls?+
The three balls sit at different performance tiers. The Icon+ is the top of the range soccer ball and the only FORZA ball with Official FIFA Quality Pro certification. Having passed independent lab tests for weight, circumference, bounce, water absorption and shape retention it is suitable for professional and international soccer matches. The Club ball carries FIFA Basic certification and is built for competitive matches and professional-level training across grass, AstroTurf and indoor surfaces. The Academy ball also carries FIFA Basic certification and is engineered for high-volume training, with a tear-resistant TPU outer that stands up to repeated use. TPU is slightly tougher than PU, and can therefore make training balls more durable than game or match-specific balls.
