What is a soccer captain armband?
A captain's armband is an elasticated band worn on the upper arm of the team captain. It normally has "captain" or the letter "C" written on it. The purpose of the band is to help referees and officials to identify the two team captains. In soccer, the captain leads the coin toss at kick-off, and he/she is the primary point of contact for the referee on the field. He or she represents the team in disputes and discussions and may be told to communicate messages from the referee or the manager/coach to his/her team. The armband is a symbol of that responsibility.
Which arm does a soccer captain's armband need to be worn on?
There is no official rule from FIFA or UEFA as to which arm the captain's armband should be worn on. It is more commonly worn on the upper left arm, as it is easier for right-handed players to put the band on their left arm.
